Launching a free romance-writing mentorship!
Would you like to invent some little guys and make them kiss?
Hello friends, and happy pride!! I am SO excited to have a new novel coming out this October (have you pre-ordered Fang Fiction yet? maybe click here and do that now!), and I feel incredibly grateful to have what is, in my opinion, the best job on earth. One of my favorite parts of my job is chatting with aspiring novelists (being a mentor for NaNoWriMo was the absolute best), but I generally only get to do that if a writer has a personal connection to me, which is gate-keepy and not ideal!
So I decided to start my own little romance-writing mentorship, which is open to anyone who’s interested. To no one’s surprise, I am calling this project “the new romantics,” and I hope it will be fun for everyone involved!
Here’s how it works:
If you’re currently working on a romance novel (or rom-com or whatever) with an eye toward being published, you can fill out this form to sign up. The form is VERY short and hopefully stress-free! There is an optional question about Taylor Swift eras! Please don’t worry too much about this!
Every month, I’ll chat with at least one writer for a 30-minute mentorship zoom (or phone call, whatever you prefer!). I’m hoping these will be fun and helpful conversations suited to your needs: We can brainstorm story ideas or tackle a scene you can’t crack, talk writing process more generally, dig in on nitty-gritty career stuff, or hotly debate which season of Buffy is best (it goes 6, 3, 5, 2, 4, 7, 1). Whatever sounds good to you!
That’s it! It’s honestly pretty simple!
A couple of things to note:
This project is open to anyone who’s working toward becoming a professional novelist, but I’m especially interested in meeting folks who write queer/diverse romances, who are making mid-career transitions, or who don’t have means for paid writing courses.
I never went through the agent querying process (the story of how I met my agent involves a mutual friend, a make-up tumblr, and a ghost-written business memoir), so I’m not the right person to help with that! I’m much better suited to questions about your writing and career path. I also can’t forward your work to my agent or editor, sorry about that!!
Unfortunately, I won’t have time to read your novel, but if there’s a particular scene or something you’d like me to take a look at before we talk, we can figure that out!
I’ll plan to schedule my zooms the first week of each month, so if you haven’t heard from me by then, hopefully I’ll be able to chat the following month!
And I think that’s it!! Feel free to forward this post to anyone you think might be interested, and here’s the link to sign up!
Thank you so much, I hope you have a wonderfully romantic day!
xx, Kate
